One Tablet Educational Computers For Developing Countries
Tablet Computers offer more flexibility than the "one laptop" model thanks to touchscreens
One Tablet Per Child has been suggested as the replacement for the one laptop per child program. Also called the $100 laptop idea, the idea was to make a laptop computer that is accessible for all children in the world. One of the issues with this program is that the $100 price barrier has been hard to overcome, even with open source technology and inexpensive manufacturing. There have been programs where people buy one laptop and a second is donated. The idea of one tablet per child may indeed break that barrier in a big way with the advent of touchscreens and lower cost technology including low-power operation which may be necessary for computers where no source of power is readily available. A manufacturer in India has created a tablet that breaks the $40 barrier and claims that it may be able to create tablets for a fraction of that cost. If so, the ability to give one tablet per child to everyone in the world could represent a new dawn of connectivity and educational opportunity.

Notes and Special Information
Special note: The relative quality of a $40 tablet is going to be lower than a $100 model which may be more rugged and faster by comparison.
